Family members have shared an update on a woman who was severely injured in a horrific crash earlier this week.
Hazel Fernandez’s niece claims her aunt is in better spirits as she heals from the crash, saying that she was only on her way home when someone else’s thoughtless acts forever impacted Fernandez’s life.
“It’s crazy what happened to her because it could happen to anyone,” Katherine Perdomo remarked. “It lives in my thoughts, and it’s horrible. I cannot comprehend what she was going through.”
Her 57-year-old aunt was engaged in a catastrophic crash in Hollywood on Tuesday, near Sheridan Street and North 66th Avenue.
Witnesses said two persons were rushing on motorcycles when one of them collided with Fernandez.
“The motorcycle essentially t-bonded her on the right side of her car and that’s why that part is affected,” Perdomo further explained.
Perdomo claimed Fernandez got out of the car and grabbed her purse so first responders could identify her.
“She had burns to her face, right arm, back and the right side of her body overall,” she told me.
Fernandez is presently healing from her injuries, which included burns on 15 to 20% of her body.
“They’re constantly changing the bandages for her wounds,” Perdomo told me. “Unfortunately given the servility of her injuries, I know this is going to be a lengthy process.”
In the accident, the motorcycle who collided with Fernandez died, and their passenger was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“Speeding, in motorcycles, endangering other people’s lives, it’s beyond me, it’s infuriating and makes my blood boil,” Perdomo told the crowd.
