Father of Four Dies Days After Fort Lauderdale Yacht Explosion Injures 14 Others

A father of four perished days after a yacht exploded in Fort Lauderdale.

Joshua Fifi was one of over a dozen people taken to the hospital following the Memorial Day boat explosion. According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the boat was sailing in the Intracoastal Waterway near Southeast 10th Street when it exploded.

Both organizations have been gathering and analyzing evidence to ascertain the cause of the explosion.

Ten people were hurt in the blast, including two children who were in serious condition at the time.

Last Monday, hospital officials reported that two individuals were in critical condition, four in serious condition, and two in excellent health.

According to the FWC, the explosion happened around 6 p.m. on May 26.

According to FWC officials, 15 passengers were on board the 39-foot Sea Ray when it exploded. According to fire officials, fuel fumes likely ignited the boat’s quick fire.
