Man Arrested in Pasadena for Multi-state Child Sexual Assault Case Sentenced to Life

A Pasadena man was sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting children across the United States.

Alvaro Maldonado Deza, 40, was sentenced to 23 years to life in state prison, the Pasadena Police Department stated on Tuesday.

The department’s Special Victims Unit opened a sexual assault investigation on Deza in August 2023.

Deza was arrested on June 26, 2024, and a search of his electronic devices turned up hundreds of pieces of child pornography.

Police also discovered films of his sexual attacks on other minors, as well as sexual actions conducted while “remote viewing with juveniles,” according to court filings.

Detectives later identified other child victims in various states around the country. Police suspect there are more victims living abroad.

On July 10, 2024, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Deza with eight charges of engaging in a lewd and lascivious act with a child under the age of 14. He remained in detention after posting $1.8 million bail.

On May 8, Deza entered a plea agreement and was found guilty of three charges of indecent and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14. He received a sentence of 23 years to life in jail.

“In addition to being convicted on the previously mentioned charges, the case against Deza is being reviewed by the United States Attorney’s Office,” officials added.

There were no further details revealed. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact Pasadena police at 626-744-4241.
