The Montecito Fire Department says that on Friday afternoon, a big accident involving nine cars slowed down traffic on southbound Highway 101 near San Ysidro Road.
Around 2:30 PM, emergency crews were sent to the spot. One person was taken to a nearby hospital by American Medical Response (AMR), but the extent of their injuries has not been made public yet.
Authorities have told cars to expect big delays in the area while they continue to work to clear the road.
Several departments had to work together to handle the situation. The California Highway Patrol (CHP), the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District, and the AMR ambulance services were thanked by the Montecito Fire Department for their help during the response.
As the investigation into the cause of the accident continues, drivers are being asked to exercise caution and wait their turn as they pass through the area. As new information comes in, it will be added to the list.
