Woman Killed Protecting Children in Wrong-way Crash, Suspect Charged With Intoxication Manslaughter

According to loved ones, a woman was around the corner from her home when a pickup truck travelling in the wrong direction struck her vehicle.

Soon after 9:30 p.m., Karina Ramirez, 28, was almost home on Tuesday when a pickup truck sped at her in the wrong lane and never stopped.

Skylar, nine, and Aliyah, seven, sat in the passenger seat.

They weren’t her real children, but Ramirez loved them like they were her own. “She was the best stepmom my grandbabies could ever have,” said Eashonne Wolford, Ramirez’s boyfriend’s mother.

The impact destroyed the automobile.

The females revealed their terrible experiences.

“She added, ‘Granny, Karina shouted so loudly that we all started screaming. We saw bright lights coming, then it appeared that the lights were rotating around, and she yelled, “Get out, girls!” Get out!” Wolford reported.

When the automobile came to a stop, the girls recall two ladies racing towards them and shattering the windows to get them out.

“The people outside the window were saying, ‘It’s gas leaking! It’s a gas leak! “We have to get them out!” Wolford said.

Ramirez’s loved ones believe she waited until she was certain her babies were safe before taking her final breath. “She said, ‘Grandma, she did like this and her head just slumped over,'” according to Wolford.

Both girls were hurt in the incident but are expected to recover.

Ramirez had been with Sedrick, her lover, since she was seventeen.

Ramirez’s mother, Wolford, stated that he was family in every meaningful manner. Now, the quest for justice begins.

“When are we going to come to a stop? “When is this going to stop?” Wolford enquired. “Y’all are giving people who are killing and running over people drunk driving, y’all are giving them a slap on the wrist.”

According to San Antonio police, the accused 45-year-old driver of the wrong-way pickup has been arrested and charged with intoxicated manslaughter and intoxication assault with a vehicle.
