Man Accused of Trying to Kill Victim Over $1,500 Debt at Florida Gas Station: Police

A 42-year-old man was arrested Friday night after allegedly attempting to kill a guy in Hialeah who owed him $1,500, according to police.

Correctional deputies from the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jose Perez early Friday morning at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Perez, also known as Jose Maykel Perez Vila, was recognized by detectives as the gunman who shot a man on Thursday night at Wawa, a petrol station on West 16 Avenue and 29 Street.

The victim told authorities that he drove away from the gas station, but Perez pursued him “at a high rate of speed” and blew a red light, according to police.

According to an arrest complaint, the victim was able to flee Perez before learning from a friend that he had plans “to kill him” for refusing to repay his $1,500 debt.

Officers from Hialeah nabbed Perez at North Miami Beach. He is charged with first-degree attempted murder and firing a dangerous projectile. A bond court judge refused his bond.

Detectives requested anyone with information about this or other incidents to contact Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 and remain anonymous.
