Denver police are investigating a two-vehicle incident on northbound Interstate 25 involving a wrong-way motorist early Sunday morning, which killed one and injured four others.
According to police, the at-fault driver of a Dodge Caravan died in the crash. Their passenger had to be extricated and sent to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Three people in the other vehicle, a Subaru, were also taken to the hospital, two of whom suffered significant injuries.
It occurred around 3 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-25, near the 20th Street exit.
Prior to the Denver incident, the Colorado State Patrol reported the same minivan driver was seen driving the wrong way on I-25 near Mead, nearly colliding with a CSP vehicle.
A traffic stop was attempted, but the driver fled, resulting in a brief pursuit that was quickly called off due to public safety concerns, according to a CSP news release.
CSP then shared information about the car with other law enforcement.
Denver7 has reached out to Denver police for more information, but we have yet to hear back.
The deceased’s identification has not been published.
Northbound Interstate 25 was closed for several hours until reopening at 9 a.m.
