Semi-truck Plunges Into Middle River in Augusta County; Driver Hospitalized, Other Motorist Charged

A driver has been charged in connection with a serious incident in Augusta County, Virginia, that hospitalised a semi truck driver over the weekend.

According to the Virginia State Police (VSP), Mustafa B. Dogan, 22, of New Jersey, was charged with reckless driving in an incident on Saturday, June 7.

Around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, VSP reported that a 2025 Volvo VNL tractor trailer driven by Florida resident Arpinder S. Flora, 42, was travelling northbound on I-81 at mile marker 228 when it was struck by a 2025 Honda CR-V driven by Dogan as he attempted to switch from the right to the left lane.

Following the initial incident, both the semi truck and the Honda impacted the bridge’s guardrail.

The semi truck’s cab slid off the I-81 bridge into the Middle River, but the trailer stayed on the bridge and overturned.

The Honda caught fire following the crash.

Flora was ejected and hospitalised with severe injuries. Several witnesses entered the water to help the truck driver, according to Augusta County Fire-Rescue.

Dogan was also hospitalised for serious injuries.

The crash is still being investigated.
