Detroit Repo Turns Violent as Police Shoot Armed Woman Trying to Stop Repossession

On Thursday, a repossession on Detroit’s east side escalated into a shooting in which police fired shots at a lady who was allegedly firing rounds at the repo man. The investigation into the gunshot is ongoing, and police believe it could have been fatal if they hadn’t intervened swiftly.

“They were shooting down there,” remarked witness Mark Alan. “I think this car was being repossessed. “They were shooting bullets down the street as this guy approached.”

Alan says he’s lived near Nottingham and Morang for 45 years and has never witnessed anything like this shooting.

According to Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison, at 2:58 p.m., police were on normal patrol on Nottingham when they noticed a woman with a handgun shooting at a vehicle.

“We believe at this time from the information that the car owner came and tried to stop the repossession, said something to the effect of ‘you’re stealing my car,’ and fired multiple shots at the repo man and his truck,” according to Bettison. “Our officers fired shots at the woman, subsequently striking her multiple times.”

Bettison reported that she was shot in the arm and leg.

The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is in serious condition.

“Being a repo individual, having that job is a dangerous occupation,” Bettison advised. “But you know a person should never resort to violence over property.”

According to Chief Bettison, neither the repo man nor any of the cops were wounded. The inquiry is still underway, and charges are potential.
