Car Collides With School Bus at College of Southern Maryland; One Injured

One person was injured Thursday afternoon, June 12, 2025, when a car collided with a school bus at the College of Southern Maryland campus in La Plata, resulting in a mass casualty incident.

The collision occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Mitchell Road and South Campus Drive. A Ford Focus allegedly pulled out in front of the school bus and was hit on the side. The car’s driver, a woman, was first unable to exit the vehicle, but was eventually liberated without the need for extrication.

Charles County emergency services checked two people from both vehicles for injuries. Neither required an ambulance, but one was transferred to UM Charles Regional Medical Centre with non-life-threatening injuries.

School officials stated that only one student was on bus #363 at the time of the accident. There were no student injuries reported, and the bus was deemed driveable after the event.

The Charles County Board of Education sent a representative to the scene as a precaution.

Police are still investigating the crash.
