According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, one person died, another sustained serious physical injuries, and one was arrested in connection with a homicide investigation.
On June 14, 2025, at 11:05 p.m., deputies from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint of a domestic problem on Dominion Drive in Fairhope’s unincorporated region. When deputies arrived, they discovered two residents of the home with substantial physical injuries. The patients were taken to a hospital in Pensacola, Florida, for treatment. Deputies named Ryan Thomas Smith, 38, as a suspect in the investigation.
It was discovered that Smith had fled the area in a car before our arrival. Deputies found Smith’s vehicle on Interstate 65 northbound in Baldwin County and attempted to stop it. A car pursuit began and terminated on Interstate 65 in Escambia County, Alabama, when BCSO officers successfully used the Grappler System to halt the vehicle. Smith was brought into custody at that point.
One of the victims died from their injuries in the hospital. The other victim is receiving treatment for their injuries. The victim’s identities are not being revealed at this time to ensure proper notification.
Smith is charged with murder and attempted murder and has been lodged into the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Corrections Center. Smith is being held on no bond, and additional charges are possible. Our personnel are aggressively working the crime scene, and there will be a strong law enforcement presence on Dominion Drive for the most of the day. There are now no other suspects in the case, and there is no more public safety danger in the region. For more information, contact Captain Daniel Steelman.
