Michigan Man, 31, Dies After Dirt Bike Collides With Train at Railroad Crossing, Authorities Say

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a Michigan man died Saturday evening after colliding with a train on his dirt bike.

According to authorities, the crash occurred at a railroad crossing on Sterns Road in Erie Township on Saturday, June 14, at 9:30 p.m. According to the Sheriff, the dirtbike was moving westbound while the railroad gates and warning signs were operating. According to officials, the crash occurred while a northbound train was going on the rails.

The Sheriff’s Office believes the dirt bike crossed left on center as it approached the tracks, allowing the vehicle to go around the railroad crossing gate. The driver, now named as Jacob Buchele, collided with the train and fell from his dirt bike. The 31-year-old was pronounced deceased on the spot.

According to authorities, the motorist was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. The crash happened at a Norfolk Southern railroad crossing. Alcohol is thought to have had a role in the incident, although the cause is still being investigated.
