Monday morning, Miami police investigated a quadruple shooting that occurred at two different locations in the city’s Little Haiti neighbourhood. Two people died.
Police said they initially responded to the area of North-west Second Avenue and 62nd Street around midnight after receiving a ShotSpotter notification, where they discovered a wounded man; medics transported him to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Centre, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities said they also discovered a dead person inside a black car a few blocks away, near North-west Second Avenue and 56th Street. Another driver in a blue car was caught in the crossfire but was not injured.
Police said two other victims drove themselves to JMH. Witnesses claimed the four people were ambushed.
A neighbour who did not want to be identified reported hearing a barrage of gunfire.
“We all ran inside after hearing several shots. We were sitting outside, and we all ran into the house when we heard the shots. “I just know it was multiple rounds,” she explained. “Over 20. At least twenty rounds. I mean, we’re all pretty shocked about it. “There are so many new people in the neighbourhood.”
Police have not provided any additional information about the surviving victims’ conditions.
They have also not identified any suspects or determined a motive.
Authorities did say there could be several suspects.
“Detectives did, in fact, mention that they believe there are other suspects involved in this incident, which is why we need our community to come forward,” Officer Kiara Delva, a Miami Police Department spokesperson, said. “Anything you might have heard or seen take place in the area of North-west Second Avenue and 62nd Street at around midnight is urged to come forward.”
