A vigil was held for 6-year-old Eli Bender at Hamilton Park in Jersey City on Sunday night, after he was struck and killed by a UPS truck.
Crowds gathered in the rain, and candles were laid up at the accident site on Jersey Avenue and Sixth Street.
According to police, Bender was riding his bike in the neighborhood Friday before 4 p.m. when he was struck.
The driver of the truck remained on the scene. There have been no charges filed at this time.
Jersey City’s leaders and residents are now pushing for more bike lanes.
An investigation is ongoing.
