A 17-year-old girl from El Paso died while hiking with her father in Oregon on Monday.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office said it received a call requesting assistance for a teen who had fallen and was not breathing while hiking on the Soda Creek Falls Trail.
Deputies gathered from the inquiry that the victim was from El Paso, Texas, and had been hiking on several trails with her father, who lives nearby, during her visit.
They had scarcely begun up the trail when the victim sprang up or climbed a tree and hung from a six-inch-wide branch.
The branch snapped, leading her to tumble onto another log, the branch landing on top of her.
She ultimately lost consciousness, so her father attempted to take her outside where he could seek her help.
Bystanders performed CPR while emergency professionals arrived, and she was pronounced dead on the scene.
