Man Identified After Fatal I-78 Crash in Northampton County Involving Tractor-trailer

The Northampton County Coroner’s Office has identified the individual who died in a deadly automobile crash on I-78 on Monday.

According to officials, the guy injured by a tractor-trailer is 33-year-old Tyler R. Kolaja of Hamburg, New Jersey.

On Monday, around 10:15 p.m., troopers responded to I-78 westbound near mile marker 74.3 in Glendon Borough, Northampton County, for a report of a tractor-trailer crash.

According to police, Kolaja was pushing a Chevrolet Equinox in the right lane as a woman from New Jersey steered since the car had run out of gas.

According to state police, while they were moving the vehicle, an eastbound tractor-trailer collided with the Chevrolet and another damaged tractor-trailer on the shoulder, killing the man pushing the car.

According to state police, the woman driving the Chevrolet was taken to St. Luke’s Anderson Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

I-78 was stopped for many hours Monday night, and police said all traffic throughout the investigation was detoured onto Route 33.

Troopers said all eastbound lanes of I-78 were reopened about 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

This crash is still being investigated by the PSP Belfast Patrol Unit, with support from the Northampton County Coroner’s Office.
