Suspect Fatally Shot During Attempted Burglary in Weatherford, Off-duty Officer Involved

Weatherford police, with the help of Texas Rangers, are looking into a gunshot involving an off-duty officer. An automobile with gunshot holes in its front windshield was towed away from the site.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, at about 1 p.m. Sunday, Weatherford police officers were dispatched to a burglarized shop in the 2500 block of East I-20, where the owner had stopped the crime.

Texas DPS Sgt. William Lockridge informs NBC 5 that the burglary suspect has died.

According to the Arlington Police Department, the incident involved an off-duty Arlington police officer. According to the department, the officer was not hurt and has been placed on administrative leave under its regulations.

Crime scene tape could be seen on the highway’s frontage road, draped around the outside of a warehouse, as law enforcement from Weatherford police, the Texas Rangers, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and Arlington police investigated.

Investigators spent much of their time behind the warehouse, where several trailers are parked.

During the inquiry, a tow vehicle was seen transporting a tiny SUV with three gunshot holes in the driver’s side windshield. The Texas Department of Public Safety declined to comment on the bullet-riddled automobile.

The Texas DPS stated that the investigation is ongoing, but there is no danger to the public.
