According to police, a 21-year-old was charged with driving under the influence following a fatal crash in Gaston County on Monday night.
Logan Taylor, of Huntersville, is also charged with felony death by motor vehicle, failure to stop at a steady red light, and reckless driving.
Rashonda Greene, 45, of Gastonia, was identified as the person killed.
The fatal collision occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Monday, June 16, at the intersection of East Hudson Boulevard and Armstrong Park Road in Gastonia.
According to police, Taylor was driving a white Dodge Charger down Armstrong Park Road when he failed to stop at the intersection’s red light and collided with Greene’s red Hyundai Elantra. Greene was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
“This tragic incident is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly lives can be lost when alcohol and reckless driving are involved,” Gastonia police chief Trent Conard stated.
Following an investigation, officers determined that both speed and alcohol were factors in the collision. Taylor’s car’s headlights were also turned off, according to police.
“Driving while intoxicated is not only illegal, but also deadly,” Conard added. “We urge everyone to think before driving impaired. “One bad decision can ruin people’s lives.”
No additional injuries were reported.
