Florida Teen Shot During Farewell Party in Fort Lauderdale Garage, Family Pleads for Answers

Authorities in Fort Lauderdale are investigating a triple shooting that took place over the weekend. It occurred at the top of a Fort Lauderdale parking garage off East Las Olas Circle early Sunday morning.

Police said three people were shot.

Authorities have not released many details about the incident, but the shooting was likely captured on one of the garage’s numerous surveillance cameras.

Richard Murray, 19, is one of the victims with critical injuries and is being treated at Broward Health Medical Centre.

His mother, Celeste Thompson, stated that he was shot several times while on the top level of the parking garage.

He and a group of friends went out Saturday night to send off a friend who was about to deploy.

“They were at their cars and just dancing and celebrating hard because she’s leaving,” Thompson told me.

Police say multiple people approached the group and began shooting.

Thompson says her son was taken to the hospital and has already had three surgeries.

“We need someone to come forth and give us answers,” she told us. “We don’t have any answers.”

Thompson told Local 10 News that Fort Lauderdale police haven’t given the family much information.

She claims her son is an excellent student who attends Florida Atlantic University and intends to transfer to Harvard University.

“He has a major in business finance,” Thompson said. “He wants to open up a Fortune 500.”
