Son faces charges after mother found fused to her maggot-infested bed

A 51-year-old man in Pennsylvania was arrested when cops allegedly discovered his unconscious mother “fused” to her bed, which was infested with maggots.

According to a press release from the Upper Chichester Police Department, a neighbor called police on Sunday afternoon after spotting many Amazon deliveries and white plastic bags of unopened food heaped at the front door. Officers knocked and rang the doorbell repeatedly, but no one answered. They peeked through a rear-side glass door and noticed a significant amount of rubbish on the floor. There were also flies on the window.

Cops forced their way inside the residence, believing the people were dead or in trouble. When they arrived inside, they were greeted by the suspect, Daniel Klein. Police found so much rubbish and goods within the front door that it was difficult to open. They may also detect a bad odor. When police asked to see his mother, he brought them to her room, where he stated she was sleeping.

According to authorities, the mother was in bed, breathing but unconscious under a dirty blanket. Police called in paramedics to check on her and remove the blanket.

“Officers then observed her lower half to be covered in dried feces and maggots and her to have ram’s horn toenails,” the police report stated.

She was also “fused” with the bed and blankets. Medics transported her to the hospital for further evaluation.

Klein was arrested on allegations of abusing a dependent person and recklessly endangering another person.

“This is one of the worst cases I’ve seen in my four years as district attorney here,” Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer told Philadelphia’s ABC affiliate WPVI. The defendant Klein’s actions against his own mother are unacceptable. I cannot even imagine.”

Neighbors of the 55-and-over community, located roughly 20 miles southwest of Philadelphia, were surprised.

“In a community like this, you’d expect people to be more conscious of one another. Sean Hebbel told WPVI, “I was unaware this was happening, and it’s a shame.”

Klein was taken by police to the George Hill Correctional Facility, where bail was set at $50,000.
