A former Pittsfield man pleaded not guilty on Friday to murder in the killing of a Massachusetts man.
Taaniel Herberger-Brown, 42, allegedly killed 35-year-old Christopher Hairston. Hairston’s decomposed body was found in Herberger-Brown’s Greenfield apartment on Chapman Street on April 22, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.
Herberger-Brown left the area and was tracked to Albany.
Because of the condition of Hairston’s body, the medical examiner was not able to determine the precise cause of death.
Herberger-Brown is also facing three counts of assault and battery, two counts of kidnapping and unlawful possession of ammunition in connection with crimes against a different victim that allegedly took place in his apartment in February.
He was also charged with two counts of malicious destruction of property in connection with damage caused inside his apartment and a laundry room in March and April of this year.
Herberger-Brown was ordered held without bail pending a hearing scheduled for Jan. 7, 2025.
