(AP) LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA The historic walk-off grand slamball that Freddie Freeman hit in Game 1 of the World Series is up for auction.
In the bottom of the 10th inning against the New York Yankees last month, with two outs and the bases loaded, the first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers came to the plate with an injured right ankle. For the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history, Freeman smashed the opening pitch from Nestor Cortes 413 feet.
Freeman, the World Series MVP winner, stated that’s as good as it gets there.
The Dodgers claimed their ninth World Series title in five games after winning the game 6-3.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts remarked, “I’ve seen some great baseball moments, but it might be the greatest one I’ve ever witnessed.”
Zachary Ruderman, 10, corralled the ball after it fell in the right-field pavilion. He batted the ball to his father, Nico, who sprang on it when it rolled from the seat in front of him to his feet.
The fifth grader was informed that he would be leaving school early that day in order to have his braces taken off. Rather, he went to Dodger Stadium with his parents.
This is the second Dodgers-related ball up for auction this season.It is on display in Taiwan. Freeman’s teammate Shohei Ohtani hit the ball that made him the first player in big league history to have at least 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a season. The ball sold for about $4.4 million to a Taiwanese investment business. It broke all previous records for sports ball sales.
From December 4–14, SCP Auctions will be holding a sale that includes Freeman’s ball.
David Kohler, the president of the company, stated that he thinks the ball is easily worth seven figures.
