Police in Rochester area help stranded woman get heart transplant

A 64-year-old woman and her spouse were traveling from the Rochester region to Cleveland Clinic for a heart transplant, a procedure that could save their lives.

However, a snowstorm left them trapped in Portland.

She had a battery-operated heart pump, so time was of the essence.

Her spouse notified a Cleveland Clinic nurse, who in turn contacted the State Police.

The woman was transported by troopers to Jamestown Airport and Westfield Memorial, where she was flown out for a heart transplant.

According to State Police, this demonstrates how vital cooperation and fast thinking can save lives.
