Fueled by boos, Browns receiver Jerry Jeudy turns in 235-yard performance in return to Denver

DENVER (AP) When Jerry Jeudy returned to Denver, the jeers just made him more brilliant.

Jeudy reasoned that they only jeer at you when they recognize your greatness.

In an electrifying performance, the explosive Cleveland Browns wideout turnedWith nine catches for 235 yards against his old team on Monday night, he set a new NFL record for a receiver. Additionally, he scored a 70-yard touchdown in the Broncos’ 41-32 defeat.

Every time he caught the ball, Jeudy, who spent his first four seasons with Denver, was booed. He enjoyed all of the commotion aimed at him and occasionally gestured for the throng to become even louder.

Is that his only regret? With quarterback Jameis Winston throwing two pick-sixes in addition to four touchdown passes and a franchise-high 497 yards passing, the Browns (3-9) were unable to seal the victory.

Jeudy stated, “came up short.” You have to figure out how to finish and win.

With 28 passes caught in the last four games, Jeudy and Winston have developed a strong bond.

With a 44-yard pass on the Browns’ first offensive play against Denver, Winston and Jeudy got things going early. When Jeudy snagged a deep throw and ran 70 yards for a touchdown, he reminded Broncos supporters of his enormous potential. To break up the play, he stopped at the goal line and then fell backward into the end zone.

After a mixed career in the Mile High City, Jeudy, a 2020 first-round draft pick, was dealt to Cleveland this spring.

He is amazing. Winston, who threw three interceptions, claimed to have known the time at the start of the week. He was ready to return, show up, and show off; he was hungry and ready. That’s what he did. I’m glad he had a career day, even though it’s sad that we didn’t earn him this victory. I’m glad he did so well. He is a superb receiver.

For Winston, there were a lot of good and bad things that happened during the game.

With 1:48 left, Ja Quan McMillian returned an interception 44 yards for the game-winning score.Late in the second quarter, Nik Bonitto also caught Winston and took it 71 yards to the house. Winston became the only quarterback in NFL history to throw for 400 yards or more, with two pick-sixes and four or more touchdown passes.

Winston claimed that I was to blame. I need to improve my game.

The Browns intended to frequently target Jeudy. Thirteen times, they did, too. He averaged 26.1 yards per catch.

Jerry executed the plan really well, Cleveland coach Kevin Stefanski said. Got him open. Jameis made some throws. It s hard in the losing effort to feel good about anything.

No matter who lined up on him, even star Denver cornerback Pat Surtain II, Jeudy found a way to get open.

It s always great going against Pat, said Jeudy, who played at Alabama with Surtain. He s a great corner in this league, been going against him my whole life. He s always going to give you a challenge.

Jerry said there s no lingering bitterness or animosity toward the Broncos (8-5).

At the end of the day, it s football. It s competitive, Jeudy said. Everybody has juice when it s time to play. Everybody wants to be great. Everybody wants to win. That s it. No beef.
