The Iggies will be here shortly. The fourth annual Key West Music Awards will take place at the Key West Theater on January 13. There will be multiple performances by some of the best and brightest in the city, just like in previous years. Belle Jampol, Mark King, Tony Baltimore, Marshall and Scott Morlock, and Marjory Lee are all featured this year. The house band, led by Jeff Dalton, is back, and Zack Seemiller will co-host.
Songwriter of the Year, Fan of the Year, Mentor of the Year, Rock Act of the Year, and Entertainer of the Year are among the 24 categories that make up the awards ceremony. Every year, a Lifetime Appreciation Award is also presented. The nominations selected by you, the people, determine the winners. Until December 10, submit your nominations for your favorite in each of the categories at keywestmusicawards.com. It is necessary to have an email address, and each email address may only cast one vote.
The totals will be tallied and recalculated after December 10. Our finalists are the top nominees in each category. They will then proceed before a seven-judge panel. The amount of nominations received, as well as who received the most or the fewest, are unknown to these judges.
The judges don’t know one another and are all anonymous. They include fans who see a remarkable quantity of local music as well as educators and music professionals.
The evening includes the Key West red carpet, which is adorned with a lot of leather and sequins. Throughout the evening, local celebrities deliver the awards in a packed house. In between festivities, musical visitors join the live band, showcasing the talent this community has to offer. In this working community, it is uncommon for Key West musicians to end up in one location.
The Iggies are fundamentally a charity. All of the show’s earnings are used directly to support local businesses and people. The Bahama Village Music Program is this year’s primary recipient, receiving assistance in completing their new facility.
The official after-party will be held at the Alamo for some late-night jams after the event, which starts at 8 p.m. Visit keywestmusicawards.com to nominate your favorite musicians, purchase tickets, become a sponsor, or donate.
