Country star Morgan Wallen sentenced in chair-throwing case

Country music artist Morgan Wallen entered a guilty plea on Thursday to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment after he threw a chair from the roof of a six-story club in Nashville and almost struck two police officers with it.

Wallen, who came in court with his lawyer, was given a two-year sentence of supervised probation and seven days in a DUI instruction facility.

When Judge Cynthia Chappell asked Wallen how he would enter his plea, he replied, “Conditionally guilty.”

The arrest affidavit stated that Wallen was charged with hurling a chair from Chief’s Bar’s roof on April 7. The officers talked to witnesses and looked over security footage after the chair landed around a yard (meter) away. Officers were informed by witnesses that Wallen picked up a chair, threw it off the roof, and then laughed about it.

Wallen released a statement shortly after the incident, saying he was not proud of his actions and that he accepted responsibility. Making apologies and contacting legal police were mentioned in the statement, but there was no apology.

The vocalist of One Thing at a Time was first accused of one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct and three felony counts of reckless endangerment.

According to a statement from Wallen’s lawyer, Worrick Robinson, the singer has cooperated completely with authorities over the past eight months, speaking with and apologizing to everyone concerned.

Robinson said that the charges could be dismissed and expunged when he successfully completes his probation.

After the short 10-minute hearing ended on Thursday, Wallen remained silent. Instead, a number of security personnel swiftly led him away.

One of the most well-known figures in modern country music, Wallen won the Country Music Association Awards’ entertainer of the year title last month.

After a video of Wallen yelling a racial epithet surfaced in 2021, his label suspended him indefinitely. After being ejected from Kid Rock’s bar in downtown Nashville in 2020, he was arrested on accusations of disorderly behavior and public intoxication.
