Trump wants to turn the clock on daylight saving time

NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump, the president-elect, wants to abolish daylight saving time.

Trump said his party would attempt to stop the practice when he returns to government in a statement on his social media platform on Friday.

Despite its small but powerful support base, the Republican Party will do all in its power to end Daylight Saving Time, but it shouldn’t! He wrote that Daylight Saving Time is incredibly expensive for our country and cumbersome.

Although it has long been questioned, the practice of moving clocks one hour forward in the spring and backward in the fall is meant to optimize daylight during the summer. In 1942, daylight saving time was initially used as a wartime measure.

On occasion, lawmakers have suggested eliminating the time change completely. Making daylight saving time permanent was the goal of the most well-known recent attempt, the now-stalled bipartisan Sunshine Protection Act.

Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, whom Trump appointed to lead the State Department, sponsored the bill.

As the Senate voted in support of the motion, Republican Senator Rick Scott of Florida stated that it is needless and out of date to change the clock twice a year.

Standard time should be made permanent, according to health experts, who claim that lawmakers have it backward.

According to certain health organizations, such as the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, time shifts should be eliminated because standard time is more in line with human biology and the sun.

The majority of nations don’t use daylight saving time. For those that do, the clock-changing date changes, resulting in a complex web of shifting time zones.
