Police search for whoever discarded an emaciated bulldog inside a trash bag in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Investigators are attempting to identify the person who abandoned a bulldog in Des Moines after taped him inside a trash bag.

The skinny puppy was discovered with his head protruding from a black plastic trash bag on Tuesday afternoon next to a train overpass. The sack was taped shut, which prevented the dog from walking.

The man who discovered the dog claimed that the bag drew his attention because it seemed to be moving, according to a statement released by police spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek.

The dog is gradually getting better, Parizek said on Saturday. The veterinary team that is taking care of the dog reports that he weighed only approximately 23 pounds (10 kilos) when he was discovered.

Investigators are hoping that someone can identify the dog and assist them find the person who left him. According to the police, the dog’s ears are cropped, indicating that he had medical attention earlier in life.
