Alright, so Iāve always been that type. You know, the one who has the strict āno big age gapsā policy. In my case, it was a strict five-year limit. Any more than that, and I thought it was just inviting trouble. āToo different stages of life,ā Iād say to myself. āToo many potential conflicts.ā
And then life threw me a curveball. I met him. Heās 10 years older than me, which makes him 34 to my 24. And in spite of every rule Iād ever established, Iām head over heels.
I met him through work ā we both work in publishing, which is a huge bonus. We just clicked, and itās been a whirlwind ever since. He is very mature, thoughtful, and just. earthy. It is so refreshing. In all honesty, his maturity is such a big reason why I was attracted to him initially.
But hereās the thing: that little voice in the back of my mind keeps saying, āRemember your rule!ā Iām fighting against my own preconceived biases, and itās draining.
So, Iām coming to you, internet friends. Has anyone of you ever been in a relationship with a large age difference? How was it? Did you experience difficulties? Were there surprising bonuses?
Iām torn between my old rulebook and this incredible connection. Itās like Iām at a fork in the road, and I donāt know which way to go.
The Pros So Far:
- Maturity: Itās a breath of fresh air. No games, just real connection.
- Shared Interests: Being in the same field makes for constant conversation.
- Heās Considerate: He listens, he respects my boundaries, and heās just a good human.
The Cons (or, the Potential Cons):
- My Own Preconceived Notions: Iām battling my own deep-seated assumptions.
- Future Life Stages: Will our various life stages be an issue in the future?
- What will everyone else think?
Iām really interested in hearing your tales and opinions. Perhaps your experiences will assist me in determining whether I should chuck my old rulebook out of the window or hold firm.
