Truxton, NY – Three elementary school students were taken to the hospital Monday morning after a school bus carrying children from the Homer Central School District overturned in northeastern Cortland County, according to New York State Police.
Crash Occurred During Morning Route
The crash happened around 8:35 a.m. at the intersection of South Hill Road and Singleton Road in the town of Truxton. State Police said the bus was transporting 11 students, along with the driver and a bus aide, when it rolled over while making a left turn.
Trooper Aga Tinker said the bus driver was turning from Singleton Road onto South Hill Road when the vehicle overturned. At the time of the incident, road conditions were described as “pretty slick.”
Three Children Taken to Syracuse Hospital
State Police confirmed that three children — a 7-year-old girl, 7-year-old boy, and 9-year-old boy — were transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for treatment.
According to investigators, the children suffered two head injuries and one hand injury. Their current medical conditions have not been released.
Other Students Treated at Scene
The injured children were among 11 elementary-age students on board at the time of the crash. Troopers said several other minor injuries were reported, but those students did not require hospital transport.
All remaining students were transferred to another bus and safely taken to the Homer Central School District, police said.
Investigation Ongoing
New York State Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. No charges or citations have been announced, and authorities have not indicated whether mechanical issues or road conditions were primary contributing factors.

Truxton is located in northeastern Cortland County, approximately 35 minutes south of Syracuse. The intersection where the crash occurred is a rural roadway that can become hazardous during winter weather conditions.
