The president of the United Auto Workers (UAW) declared on Sunday that an overwhelming majority of working-class Americans will side with “the truth” and back President Biden over former President Trump for the presidency in 2024.
UAW President Shawn Fain argued on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that union members and the working class as a whole will support Biden because he sticks up for them, whereas Trump does not.
“I believe the overwhelming majority of UAW members and working-class people, when the facts and the truth are put in front of them, will support Joe Biden for president,” he stated.
Fain feels that Biden’s history of “serving the working class and fighting for the working class” are reasons why they will vote the Democrat, noting that the working class is a weak point for Trump.
“Donald Trump has a history of serving himself and standing for the billionaire class,” he stated. “And that’s contrary to everything that working-class people stand for.”
The UAW endorsed Biden last week, noting that he had previously stood on the UAW picket line in Michigan during their fall strike against Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis.
Meanwhile, Sean O’Brien, head of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, visited with Trump at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort last week. They are scheduled to meet again this week for a roundtable discussion, to which Biden is also invited, as the union has yet to endorse.
On Sunday, Fain went on to say that he does not believe Trump will receive backing from any American union.
“I can’t fathom any union would support Donald Trump for president,” he told reporters.
