More than 190 illegal immigrants were detained in Georgia and the Carolinas as part of an ICE operation aimed at criminal aliens, illegal re-entrants, and immigration fugitives, according to sources.
According to reports, 127 of the 190 unlawfully present aliens apprehended by ERO Atlanta had prior felony convictions in addition to their illegal immigration status. 29 had already been removed from the United States and had returned unlawfully.
17 were fugitives with final orders of removal issued by a federal immigration judge.
Of the illegal aliens seized, 87 were detained in Georgia, 84 in North Carolina, and 19 in South Carolina.
A Mexican national was detained in Georgia and is wanted in his native country on homicide and attempted homicide charges. Another was apprehended in the Charlotte, North Carolina, region after previously being convicted on three counts of indecent liberties with a kid. The immigrant was deported and then illegally reentered the United States.
As the illegal immigration situation in the United States worsens, various states are affected, including non-sanctuary states.
According to reports, “the operation targeted specific public safety threats, such as convicted criminal aliens and gang members, and individuals who have violated our nation’s immigration laws, including those who re-entered the country after being deported and immigration fugitives ordered deported by federal immigration judges.”
According to ICE, some of those apprehended during the operation will face criminal charges from the US Attorney’s Office for illegal entrance and reentry after deportation.
