Donald Trump’s projected start date for his federal 2020 election obstruction trial has been removed from the public calendar, fueling speculation among MAGA fans. Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is presiding over the case, had originally scheduled the trial for March 4.
However, the commencement of hearings is expected to be delayed because the case is on hold while the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit determines whether Trump should be exempt from prosecution because the claims against him arise from his time in office.
The March 4 trial date has been pulled from the federal court’s public schedule in Washington, D.C., signaling that it will be postponed during the immunity appeal process.
MAGA officials assumed that removing the March 4 trial date from the public calendar suggested the matter would be dismissed entirely. Republican Florida representative Anna Paulina Luna claimed that the state was removed from the court calendar “within hours” of her letter to Smith’s office requesting details about the probe.
After November, the other cases against Trump might also be put off until after the election. The Florida trial probably won’t happen before the election. The March 25 trial in New York for hush payments is still set to happen.
