On Friday, police arrested and charged a local pediatrician with child abuse.
David Healey, 51, from Barrington, has been charged with second-degree child molestation and sexual assault.
The probe against Healey began in January. Police stated that a minor was involved in the inquiry but did not provide further details.
According to police, Healey is a licensed doctor in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He is identified as a pediatrician in both North Providence and Worcester.
In a statement to 12 News, Rhode Island Department of Health spokesperson Joseph Wendelken acknowledged that the state is looking into the incident.
“We have been in contact with law enforcement about this physician,” he added. “The matter is under review with our investigatory and licensing teams.”
Healey was ordered remanded without bond until his next court date, March 25. He was also told not to contact the victim or other minors.
