On Saturday, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office stated they were summoned to Daytona Beach by an anonymous person who had witnessed the pair drinking excessively.
In the deputy’s body-worn camera, the couple is seen passing out, surrounded by open cans of alcohol and two folding children’s toys, but no children are visible.
In the footage, cops repeatedly attempt to wake the couple up. Deputies even inquired about the children’s whereabouts before a disheveled Timothy Stephens was spotted looking toward the water for them.
Deputies claimed they escorted Stephens to the Nautilus Inn, where they discovered both children, aged 5 and 7, swimming in the pool unaccompanied.
Both children were unharmed, but Stephens and Langley were arrested for two counts of child negligence and possession of alcohol on the beach, a county ordinance violation.
Stephens attempted to flee deputies before the two were brought to county jail. He collapsed on the beach, rendering himself unconscious. He was taken to the hospital and then released back to deputies.
Langley contacted a family member, who informed deputies that he would drive from Georgia to Volusia County for the children.
The Department of Children and Families looked after the children until Langley’s grandfather arrived from Georgia to take custody of them.
Both were released from jail the following day.
