Six people were discovered dead in an empty area along a California highway on Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Mara Rodriguez, a spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, said an investigation was ongoing after deputies discovered the remains Tuesday night off Highway 395 in El Mirage, California.
According to the Victor Valley Media Group, they were fatally shot.
However, authorities did not provide any information about the cause of death.
Rodriguez stated that the sheriff’s department had yet to confirm the victims’ ages or genders and had not provided any other information on their identities.
The six dead were discovered on a rural road while responding to a health check in the vicinity.
Two vehicles, a silver minivan and a dark blue SUV, were discovered at the scene.
The sheriff’s department refused to confirm whether the people were shot and provided no other information on the cause of death.
Authorities stated that this is the only crime scene being investigated.
