Memphis police shot a person on Friday morning.

According to authorities, at 7:42 a.m., an officer discovered a parked automobile in the middle of the road with three persons sleeping inside on Frayser-Raleigh Road near New Allen Road.

The automobile was discovered to be stolen from West Memphis. The officer reported that the three were sleeping while wearing masks and gloves and holding firearms in their laps, and he requested assistance.

When more officers came, they attempted to apprehend the three suspects when one of them pointed a gun.

Two officers then opened fire, striking one.

The driver then fled, and authorities pursued the vehicle.

The suspects then collided with another car near St. Elmo Avenue and Edenburg Drive.

An adult and a child in the other vehicle were transported to the hospital in a noncritical condition.

The injured suspect was transported to a hospital and is currently in non-critical condition.

Another person was brought to the hospital with non-critical injuries following the incident.

According to Stephen Chandler, Deputy Chief of Special Operations for the MPD, “All of them were wearing masks and gloves.” As the police approached the vehicle and glanced inside, he noticed that they were armed. The officer retreated to his car and requested additional units.

“The driver was taken into jail without incident, as did the backseat passenger. Chandler stated that the front passenger fled the vehicle while driving northbound.

“By the time he looked, we had heard a BOOM. “When we heard the BOOM, I told my kids to get down because we had no idea what was going on,” said a neighboring resident.

“The cops got out. One man got out of the car and leaped over the fence, and the other two passengers, the one in the driver’s seat, got out and collapsed in the back seat when the cops arrived, he just came out and surrendered,” said a woman who lives nearby.

The third suspect in this incident escaped and is still at large.

Police believe he is between 17 and 20 years old, has dreadlocks, and is dressed in a gray hoodie and blue jeans.
