While officers were arresting Covington, they discovered a magnetic device commonly employed in retail robberies in his jeans pocket, but that was hardly the beginning.

Police discovered 26 graphing calculators, a huge number of unused Target bags, a stack of cards with Target aisle numbers on them, and a receipt from a West Milwaukee Target.

Officers added that Covington admitted to stealing the calculators from numerous Target stores. He reportedly informed officers that he did not want to discuss how he ended up in Indiana and that he was driving a leased automobile.

A national records search also found that Covington had an active arrest warrant out of Wisconsin. He was taken into police custody and informed cops that he collects calculators but does not know where he keeps them before demanding a lawyer.

Officers also spoke with Target’s loss prevention department, which confirmed that Covington was the suspect in several thefts from Georgia to Indiana in recent days. He allegedly took calculators from five other Indiana Target shops.

According to Target’s statistics, Covington is suspected of stealing $90,000 in calculators from Target locations across the United States since December 2021.

Covington’s criminal record revealed two misdemeanors and two felony offenses for theft/robbery in Georgia, Ohio, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

Covington was booked into the Hamilton County Jail and jailed for felony theft with a value ranging from $750 to $50,000, felony theft with a prior theft conviction, and misdemeanor theft.
