Wisconsin GOP ‘demand’ Democratic justice withdraws herself in redistricting trial

Conservatives are requesting that Wisconsin’s newest Supreme Court justice remove herself from the state’s redistricting trial.

The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty, joined by Reps. Bryan Steil (R-WI), Mike Gallagher (R-WI), Glenn Grothman (R-WI), Tom Tiffany (R-WI), and Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI), are urging Democratic Justice Janet Protasiewicz to recuse herself for disparaging remarks she previously made about the current districts and the funds her campaign received from the Democratic Party.

During her bid for the seat last year, Protasiewicz said that the state’s existing congressional layout was “rigged” by Republicans and called for a reconsideration.

Conservatives argue that the 2022 verdict that set the present map was fair and that the “least change” precedent should be followed.

“Governor Evers recommended the current congressional plan, which was accepted by the Wisconsin Supreme Court in 2022. According to Just the News, any attempt to review this verdict and redraw Wisconsin’s congressional districts is both procedurally and legally incorrect.
