The United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced that MF Meats, based in Falconer, New York, is recalling about 93,277 pounds of raw beef products.

According to regulators, nearly 100,000 pounds of meat could have been tainted with non-food grade mineral seal oil, which is not allowed for use in meat processing.

The raw beef items were produced between November 26, 2023 to February 16, 2024. All of the products listed here, as well as the ones below, are subject to recall.

Meat chops and ground meat come in various weights. The items show Julian dates 330-365 (November 26 – December 31) and 1-47 (January 1 – February 16).

The products being recalled contain the establishment number “EST. 569” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These goods were distributed to restaurants in New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Health officials are concerned that certain products may still be in restaurants’ refrigerators and freezers.

“Restaurants should not serve these products. “These products should be discarded or returned to the point of purchase,” the FSIS advised in a press release.

“There have been no documented instances of adverse reactions related to the consumption of these goods. Anyone who is concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Customers Complain About A “Chemical Taste”

The problem with the meat was discovered after regulators received four complaints from eateries about a “chemical taste” in the meat products.

“After an investigation, the company discovered that its mineral oil supplier had sent them a drum containing non-food grade mineral seal oil labeled as food grade mineral oil.” “The non-food grade mineral seal oil was applied to food contact surfaces rather than directly to meat products,” the FSIS stated.

Anyone with food safety questions should call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854) or email [email protected].
