Michigan GOP candidate mistakenly registered to vote in Florida

According to his voter registration, a candidate for the United States Senate in Michigan is actually from Florida.

Mike Rogers represented Michigan’s eighth congressional district in Congress from 2001 to 2015, and he hopes to return to the legislature as a Michigander. However, he faces a Mehmet Oz problem in that he may not live in the state he wishes to represent in the Senate.

The spokesperson for Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), who is competing for the Democratic Senate nomination, noted that Rogers is registered to vote in Cape Coral, Florida.

“Fun fact: @MikeRogersForMI is literally registered to vote in Florida right now,” tweeted Austin Cook on Monday. Cook quoted Rogers’ tweet, stating that he “will be proud to serve my home in the U.S. Senate.”

According to Michigan Advance, Rogers has a $1.7 million Cape Coral property with a square footage of 4,751.

Rogers attended a rally hosted by former President Donald Trump in Grand Rapids last week. Trump congratulated Rogers and predicted he would win the Senate nomination and the general election, but chastised him for appearing on CNN.

“He had one little sabbatical, he went to CNN for a little while, and it’s ok, you know,” Trump was quoted as saying. “But other than that, he’s been great.”

The Republican and Democratic Senate primaries in Michigan are on August 6.
