In a tragic incident in the Bronx early Friday morning, a man was fatally mauled by his own pet pit bull, named Max, prompting NYPD officers to intervene and fatally shoot the dog, according to authorities.
The harrowing event unfolded when officers responded to a 911 call reporting a dog attack in the Longwood section around 3 a.m.
Upon arriving at 1210 Simpson St., officers were confronted with a gruesome scene, with blood scattered throughout the area and the pit bull holding its owner by the throat, police reported.
In an effort to save the victim, officers discharged their weapons multiple times, resulting in the death of the dog at the scene.
Emergency Medical Services swiftly transported the owner to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. As of now, the victim’s identity remains undisclosed.
