17-year-old Receives 15+ Years in Prison for Second-degree Murder of Kansas Man

In the death case of Kansas man Jarod Rogers, a 17-year-old was given more than 15 years in prison by the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC). She could get 147 months in prison for one count of second-degree murder on purpose and 55 months for two counts of violent robbery.

In late November 2022, Shawnee Police were called to check on Rogers and later found him with a gunshot wound. Rogers died on December 2, 2022, from his wounds.

Court papers show that five teens were all involved in Rogers’ death. Fernando Reyes-Lara, who is 18 years old, admitted to killing someone on purpose in the second degree and stealing from someone else.

Reyes-Lara got 400 months in jail, which adds up to more than 30 years. Three more 17-year-olds who were involved in Rodgers’ death are also being charged with crimes.

Guzman will spend all 202 months at the same time in KDOC custody, plus an extra 36 months after he gets out.
