Missing Dutchess County man found inside Clarksville Caves in New Scotland

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office report an incident that happened at the Clarksville Caves in the Town of New Scotland on Saturday, involving a man who was declared missing in Dutchess County this week.

Sheriff Craig Apple says around 10:18 a.m. Saturday, his office received a report of a pickup truck that was parked at the trail entrance of the Clarksville Caves behind Son’s Deli.

Apple says upon investigation by deputies, the owner of the truck, John Higgins, was reported missing out of Dutchess County on Thursday.

Higgins was located inside an area of the cave around 2 p.m. Saturday by the Sheriff’s Office’s Search and Rescue Team, NYS Forest Rangers, and the National Cave Rescue Commission, said Apple.

Witnesses told officials that Higgins had entered the trail on Thursday around 1 p.m, said police.

Officials say Higgins had no reports of injury when he was found in the cave.

He was issued an appearance ticket for trespassing and is scheduled to appear in the Town of New Scotland Court on November 21.
