The city of Troy is removing a three-story building on 5th Avenue that is in danger of falling down.

Mayor Carmella Mantello said the city engineer and the code enforcement officer condemned the brick building at 2129 5th Ave. on Thursday after observing severe structural instability.

The city constructed a perimeter around the structure in order to protect public safety. The building is carefully being taken down on Friday to avoid it collapsing into the city right-of-way.

The cost of the demolition will be billed to the property owner.
