Two nonprofits get grants for food programs

Two local nonprofits are receiving a big boost for food programs.

U.S. Rep Paul Tonko, (D Amsterdam), announced on Monday that $848,000 in federal grant has been awarded to Capital Roots and Schenectady Green Market.

That money will help these community organizations create new market opportunities for small scale agricultural producers.

It will also help the delivery of healthy, locally grown products to underserved communities.

Tonko said it s important to make sure everyone in the Capital Region has access to fresh, affordable, and nutritious food.
