AARON CASTILLO’S SWEARING-IN COMPLETES KEY WEST CITY COMMISSION

The newly formed Key West City Commission is complete and formally established. Aaron Castillo, the recently elected District 6 commissioner, will attend the commission’s December meeting after taking the oath of office on November 18.

He takes the place of commissioners Jimmy Weekley and Billy Wardlow as well as longtime commissioner Clayton Lopez, who was term-limited out. Mayor Dee Dee Henriquez, who ran unopposed and won the primary on August 20, succeeded former Mayor Teri Johnston, who decided not to run for reelection.

Rachel Oropeza, who was elected to the Key West Utility Board on November 5, was also sworn in. With her parents by her side, she took the oath of office.

Because his wife, Shelly, passed away suddenly less than a week after Castillo’s election victory, Castillo had his daughter hold the bible while he took his oath.
