The Butternut Fire is now 60% contained, according to the Great Barrington Fire Department.
As they gather additional information to confirm the fire’s extent—it has currently burnt 1,670 acres—fire officials anticipate that number to rise. The fire is contained and has not spread.
It is anticipated that there will be a 10-mile radius surrounding the fire.
It is still recommended that people avoid the area.
