SPCA HITS THE ROAD IN NEW MOBILE CLINIC, THANKS TO FANTASY FEST FUNDS

Recall that the Florida Keys SPCA received over $587,000 from the Royal Campaign for King and Queen of Fantasy Fest last year.

It shattered all previous records and was the first year that the SPCA benefited from the annual eight-week fundraising campaign.

Last week, the reward for those candidates’ labors showed up in the Key West animal shelter’s parking lot, and it’s gorgeous.

According to executive director Tammy Fox, the charity Florida Keys SPCA received a mobile animal clinic, which has been on its wish list for over ten years.

The unique car was personally driven from the Midwest to Key West by the CEO of LaBoit Specialty Vehicles in Columbus, Ohio, and it was delivered on November 21.

During an unplanned tour of the $350,000 car, Fox stated, “We would never have been able to do this without the 2023 Fantasy Fest royal court and every single person who donated to one or more of those candidates.” She also mentioned that operating it will cost an extra $150,000 annually.

Between MM 0 and MM 70, the mobile animal clinic will roam, offering free or inexpensive spay, neuter, and wellness services in places where pet owners do not have the means to get their animals to the SPCA’s on-site clinic or to a nearby veterinarian’s office.

According to Fox, the mobile clinic will undoubtedly be at the Marathon SPCA every Wednesday.

Additionally, it will spend time in Bahama Village, Key West, where a large number of people rely on public transportation or ride bikes.

There will be more stops in the Lower Keys, Big Pine, and all the way up to MM 70.

Standing inside the mobile clinic, which has an operating table and an examination room, Fox told the Keys Weekly, “We’re in the process of getting it insured now, but we’ll be up and running by the first of the year.” The weekly schedule is available on our website and social media pages, fkspca.org and Facebook.

Stanley Kovak, Steve Brenner, Darla Snyder, and the Dogwood Foundation provided financial support in addition to the royal court. Photographed by Nick Doll of Nick Doll Photography, a fervent supporter of the SPCA, the animals on all sides of the van either represent adopted alums of the local shelter or local pets of SPCA donors who entered a drawing to have their pet included on the van.

Sir Winston, Doll’s own dog and another shelter alum, can be shown on the mobile clinic’s entrance and beneath its rear taillight.
