Troy man admits to federal gun, drug charges

A guy from Troy has entered a guilty plea to federal narcotics and firearm charges.

In U.S. District Court on Monday, 26-year-old Richawn McClain guilty to having a handgun in connection with a narcotics trafficking offense and to possessing and planning to distribute cocaine and fentanyl.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, McClain possessed over 900 fentanyl tablets, 32 grams of cocaine, and a gun that had been converted into a machine gun. Prosecutors also claim that he had $22,770 in cash in a bag of drugs. As part of his plea, he has to surrender that money.

McClain faces a maximum punishment of $1 million and a mandatory prison sentence of up to life in prison.

Later on, he will be sentenced.
